the photographY starts with a phone call to You

Q. Why doesn’t Calotype text or email when it comes to booking family photos?

A. For the price of hiring a professional photographer, you should expect someone to ask you questions and learn your needs. Julie gets her unique ideas from listening to clients talk. Texting/messaging leaves much lost in translation but a phone call gets right to the point.

Calotype specialize in QUALITY over QUANTITY

Q. How many pictures do you take?

A. Your photographer approaches your Session with one goal- create the best image possible. We don’t want a good picture- we want a great portrait! Immediately after talking with you on the phone, your photographer begins to design the background, lighting and pose. They will study and rehearse before your Session, much like a professional athlete before the game, spending their time before the Session so you don’t have to spend as much time during the Session. That said, on the journey to one fabulous image, sometimes other endearing images are made. The photographer will curate the best of the best to show you, always careful to show you a range of possible choices. Every Session is really different and depends on the people involved.

Calotype offers both prints and digital files

Q. What do I get?

Calotype won’t leave you with more work to do. We are a full-service studio that prints real, physical photos that you can touch, feel, and pass down for generations. And with every print you purchase, no matter the size, a digital file is also included! Your photographer will curate the photos from the Session, make recommendations, show you the difference between sizes and finishes, and direct you every step of the way. But you are the final authority- and you decide what you’d like to purchase. We have found most clients want one moderate Wall Portrait, a small album of the fun, unexpected images, and all the digital files for safekeeping.

Is your brain buzzing with questions? We’d love to answer them- please call us to chat.
